Are online Qur’an classes no long desirable?
Have you ever tried teaching your children the Quran online, but they haven’t progressed?
Never give up! Always strive to teach them, and have faith that Allah Almighty will guide you.
He says, (وَالَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا ۚ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمَعَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ)”And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good” (Al-Ankabut 69).
Most non-Arabic Muslims rely on online courses as they are often the only way to find native Arabic tutors who can improve students’ skills in mastering Tajweed and the Quran. Because Arabic teachers are mostly preferred by parents, they are seen as more accurate. However, many tutors offer free or public courses, which may have a lesser impact on students who lack privacy, one-on-one interactions, and adequate progress assessment. As a result, some parents assume that the shortcomings in learning the Quran stem from the online courses themselves rather than from the learning approach.
Many people prefer free or public online courses because they are more affordable in many academies. These courses are low-cost compared to private ones. Unfortunately, this type of course has many disadvantages. First, public courses often lack flexible scheduling, which can lead to stress for students who find it difficult to manage their time. For example, determining a schedule that fits everyone can be challenging. Additionally, it is hard for tutors to make up lessons for each absent student, requiring significant effort to keep everyone on track. Secondly, having more than three children in a session can create distractions for younger students or those at a lower level than their peers. Furthermore, free or public courses tend to be cheaper partly because some teachers lack experience in effective teaching methods. Even qualified tutors may struggle with language barriers, complicating communication. These factors can negatively impact students’ confidence, especially when parents perceive learning a language like Arabic or memorizing the Quran as easy.
On the other hand, private courses have a better impact on students, helping them develop more quickly and effectively compared to public courses.
First, they provide flexible scheduling that fits the student’s needs, making them psychologically and mentally ready to study. Additionally, parents can contact the teacher directly to discuss every detail about their children’s progress.
Secondly, being in a quiet setting allows students to concentrate without distractions from other students, giving them more opportunities to practice recitation multiple times. Unlike free courses, private courses feature fluent teachers in both Arabic and the student’s language. Mastering multiple languages demonstrates the teacher’s proficiency and ability to communicate effectively, making the sessions more enjoyable. Private courses also offer a wider range of options. So, never hesitate to look for a good teacher for your children to teach them the noblest of sciences ever. Allah almighty says “And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the righteous” (Al-Imran 133).
Consequently, some parents base their views on online Quran courses more on financial considerations than on quality. Every parent should take the teaching of the Quran to their children seriously, as it is a valuable investment. Allah mentions that those who recite the Quran and give charity seek to have “a trade-gain that will never perish.” Finally, remember this Hadith that tells the reward of learning the Quran. Prophet Muhamed Peace be upon him said: “Whoever reads the Quran, learns it, and acts in accordance with it, on the Day of Resurrection, his parents will be given a crown to wear…”
